The Village Show

All of the information and guidance for the classes is also available as a hard copy from Williams Stores.

The Village Show, the main event run by Grundisburgh Burgh & Culpho Horticultural Society, takes place this year on Saturday 14 July from 12.30 to 5pm on Grundisburgh Playing Field (IP13 6TN).

Details of all 133 classes, which are open to people from all areas, are available on this site. They cover flower arranging, flowers and plants, vegetables and herbs, fruit, preserves, baking, handicraft, photography and art, with sections for youth and children, over 65s and beginners.

The completed entry forms need to be handed in on 11 July in Grundisburgh Parish Room or delivered to Ford House before then (see entry conditions section). The actual entries must be delivered to the marquee on the playing field before 10am on show day.

There are 25 cups to be won. Each adult class carries £5 prize money for the winner while there are prizes of £2, £1 and 50 for first, second and third in the children’s section.

Show day

As well as admiring the prize vegetables, flowers and craft in the grand marquee, visitors will be able to enjoy a wide range of activities on the playing field outside. For children this includes the chance to try out some new games which have been specially made for the show by Phil Attwater (including a human fruit machine), have donkey rides, enjoy a new style inflatable and compete in races.

The event kicks off at 12.30pm, with the show marquee opening at 1.30pm. The afternoon ends with prize giving and the presentation of the 25 silver trophies at 4.30pm. Entry to the playing field and parking are free, while adults pay 50p to go into the marquee.

A licensed bar, barbecue, ice creams and tea tent will be serving throughout. For fans of two and four wheels, the Suffolk Vehicle Enthusiasts will be back again with their classic cars; motor bikes and landrovers will also be on view. There will be lots of stalls, music from the Ipswich Hospital Concert Band and a car boot (no pre booking for the car boot, with setting up from 11am and a fee of £6 per vehicle (plus £5 for any additional space).

Regretfully dogs are not allowed on site due to national playing field regulations.

Mounting the show costs a considerable amount of money, and the society is very grateful for the support it receives: from our patrons who give an annual subscription, the companies which advertise in our schedule and provide prizes for the raffles, and those individuals and businesses who sponsor class prize money. Our headline sponsors again for 2018 are Strutt & Parker and we thank them for their continued generous support.
